General Information:

Hopea erosa is a species of plant in the family Dipterocarpaceae. It is endemic to the southern end of the Western Ghats in India. This tree has thin trunk, smooth bark Trees about 18 m tall. Leaves simple, alternate, spiral; petiole stout, ca.0.5 cm long; lamina 10-25 x 3-6 cm, elliptic-oblong to oblong-lanceolate, apex acute, base rounded or subcordate, margin entire, glabrous; midrib raised above; secondary nerves 12-14 pairs, tertiary nerves weakly reticulo-percurrent. Inflorescence panicles in axillary fascicles. Fruit and SeedNut, obovoid or oblong, apiculate, 2.5 x 1.5 cm; fruiting calyx woody, truncate.
