A Webinar Series from MSSBG was launched on 28th November 2020 and it was inaugurated by Dr. M.C. Dathan, Scientific Advisor to Chief Minister of Kerala and former director of VSSC. He delivered his speech on ‘Emerging Trends to Conserve Biodiversity’ and has added that we have a great responsibility for sustaining the life system of the planet. He pointed out the importance of protecting every crop varieties and appreciated the effort taken by MSSBG for the sustainability of rare plants. Dr. B. Venugopal, Honorary Director, Centre for Intangible Heritage Studies, Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit, Kalady joined the panel by taking up a session on ‘Biocultural Diversity Community Protocol as Applicable to Intangible Heritage’. Mr. V.V. Sivan, Senior Scientist, MSSBG spoke about the ‘Importance of conservation of wild crop relatives’.
The second in this series was convened on 9th January 2021 in association with MES College Mampad with the theme eco system restoration. Dr. Subhash Chandran, Consulting Scientist, Indian Institute of Science, shared his research experiences with the session ‘Developing Methods for Ecosystem Restoration in Western Ghats, India’. Dr. Anoop Das, Assistant Professor, Head and Research Supervisor at Conservation Ecology and Dept of Zoology at MES College Mampad joined the panel by taking up the session ‘Biodiversity on least explored areas; how much do we know?’.
