The Edible School project extended to 60 kitchen gardens of school students

The project named Edible School supported by the Botanical Garden Conservation International successfully developed two nutrition gardens at two participating schools (Hill Blooms School, Mananthavady and Govt. High School, Thrikaipetta) of the project. Moreover, now it is extended to the houses of 60 member students of the project as kitchen gardens.

Edible School is a concept where the Children are engaged in food production under the guidance of trained, interested and caring leaders, who lead the children into discovery and exploration of soil, water, biodiversity and the science of agriculture! The project is to allow “Every Child Grow with Nature”. The Edible School children celebrated harvesting from their nutrition garden at both the schools, and their own kitchen gardens. Along with the nutrition garden many exotic as well as native fruits were planted in the schools to set a best example of consumption of healthy food. The project team created awareness among the students about aboveground and belowground biodiversity through various online trainings of scientists from MSSRF. Now, the students are actively participating in various competitions related to agriculture and nutrition.
