Swethapushpi’- A woody climber that is endemic to Western Ghats and an attraction at MSSBG endows us with its white flowers!
Beaumontia jerdoniana Wight is an endemic species of Western Ghats and narrowly distributed in Wayanad district. It is a large evergreen climber with leathery leaves and a fast growing plant on fertile soil that has adequate water content and on hot moist conditions. It produces long white aromatic trumpet shaped flowers. The flowers shower its beauty in abundance at MSSBG during the misty winter weather of Wayanad. Though the flowers are delicate white, its fruits are long thick and woody. As a part of the ex situ conservation programmes and activities, MSSRF has distributed more than 500 seedlings of these plants.
