GOD tree campaign launched at Mapitacherry sacred grove, Pilicode,
Kasaragod in the name ‘Kaavoottu’ by Dr. V. Balakrishnan, DYSP, Vigilance Kasaragod. The campaign was conducted in association with Cherish Expeditions, a team of responsible tourism coordinators and NSS unit of Payyanur College, Payyanur. This campaign is to revive the degraded sacred groves and to conserve Rare Endemic and Threatened (RET) tree species. Natural degrading was prominent in Mapitacherry sacred grove.
As part of the campaign 100 seedlings of Aporusa lindleyana, Calophylllum astroindum, Cinnamomum sulphuratum, Dillenia bracteata, Mimusops elengi, Pittosporum tetraspermum, Saraca asoca, Spathoobus purpureus, Strophanthus wightianus, Syzygium cumini, Vateria indica, Syzygium stocksii, Elaeocarpus ganitrus, Terminalia arjuna, Canarium strictum, Myristica beddomei, Pterospermum rubiginosum, Alstonia scholaris, Tabernaemontana heyneana, Mesua ferrea species were planted at the site. Its maintenance will be taken care by the active NSS unit of Payyanur College.
