The first harvesting of vegetables at the Edible Schools was done in the month of March, 2021. Children, along with the faculty, gathered in their gardens to reap the produce. At Government High School, Thrikkaipetta children garnered a variety of vegetables like brinjal, green chillies, red and green spinach, beans and legumes. At Hill Blooms- Mananthavady, children picked up a bunch of beans, legumes, chillies, and spinach.
Children from both schools were excited to see their garden produce as well as their fruit tree saplings- guava, custard apple and mango seeds growing healthy into trees.
The children are fully engaged in the vegetable gardening by watering, adding the right amount of manure to plants, and observing the pattern of the plant growth. Though Thrikkaipetta children had encountered with a pest attack, it was soon controlled by using organic remedies.
