This zone has a collection of pteridophytes, the vascular Cryptogams. The Pteridophytes have a long history of their evolution and it is believed to be a dominant group of plants during the carboniferous period. Ferns are used as food, medicine, decorative and the collection include the true ferns and fern allies. 250 species of these plants are reported from Kerala, out of which 119 species are from Wayanad. This fernery holds 75 species including endemic and threatened species such as Elaphoglossum Beddomei, E. nilgiricum, Cyathea nilgirensis, Bolbitis virans .
