As part of the DST supported project MSSRF has identified an eco-friendly apiculture technique invented by a school student named Oli Aman Jodha and her mother from Wayanad district. The equipment is used for transferring the little bees or Dwarf honey bee (Apisflorea) from their natural habitat to the beehive. Along with the innovation, she has been practising apiculture using native varieties of honey bees. MSSBG supported for the innovator by setting up beehives in our botanical garden. She mainly focuses on the Apisflorea, and the honey obtained from these bees are considered to be of high medicinal value. The student innovator was participated in various national level innovators conclaves with the auspices of MSSRF and won national-level awards also. She received state-level special awards in the rural innovators meet (RIM 2018) organized by Kerala state council for science technology& Environment (KSCSTE).
National level recognition received from rural innovators meet and start-up conclave organized by Nation Institute of Rural Development&Panchayath Raj (NIRD& PR) held at Hyderabad on August 30& 31st 2018. RISC-2018 focused on seven categories – Agriculture &Allied categories, Green Energy, Waste to Wealth, Sustainable Housing, and Health &Elderly care, Drinking water & Sanitation and Sustainable Livelihood. There were 187 stalls and Innovators from various parts of the country participated in the event. The Honey bee transferring equipment exhibited by KumariOli got the first prize under the category of Sustainable Livelihood. The award comprised of Rs 50000/- and a Shield.
Under the Botanical Garden Initiative, MSSRF has planned to study all the bee species of Wayanad district and promotion of apiary with the native Indian bees.
