The tribal population of Wayanad has been depending on many wild plant resources for dietary requirements. Unfortunately due to the changes occurred in land use patterns and to some extent the changes in societal values, traditional knowledge regarding these resources is on gradual decline. The botanical garden has120 species of wild food those signify the food habit and medicinal possessions of the tribal and rural communities of Wayanad. It includes edible herbs, fruit bearing shrubs/trees, roots etc and in which 22% are endemic to Wayanad
